I really enjoyed learning about this oil on canvas painting in my history of art lecture the other day, not so much due to the artwork, due to the story behind the piece. Marie-Louise was one of Louis VX lower mistresses, and at the age of only fourteen, this was painted. I think the main reason I was drawn to this image was that it is technically just old pornography and the king used to open his wardrobe and pleasure himself to this image. It amazes me how much times have changed and how easily available anything can be if you look on the internet. I love the use of colour in this portrait, all of the rich fabrics and textures too- you can clearly see that this room belonged to somebody rich- and indeed it did.
